Trying to keep this short…Losing sleep as I write…Daylight savings time change tomorrow and I will lose and hour of sleep…I plan on getting up for church in the morning…It just has been a long, long, long day here…Positive day but busy…I had to tell the kids I need a break to write…It is on my mind to make sure I write every day even if it is just a few sentences…
My hubby and I have been going strong since noon…We took care of usual household things yesterday…Therefore I had time today to get some unusual household things done…The boys’ room…It is a disaster…Only partially their fault too…They share a bedroom and it is very small to begin with…Two dressers and two twin beds…There is no other room for anything…If they play, it easily turns into a cluttered mess…Not much room to do anything…But today I had a plan…We are still on the hunt for bunkbeds but until God puts these into our lives we will make due with what we have…First order of business…Clean-Up and vacuum…Get everything out of room except essentials…Hubby and I hung up two long shelves for the boys’ favorite things and stuffed animals…Lots of clutter cleared up off the floor…The shelves were someone else’s trash therefore they were free to us…We were gifted with my late grandfather’s enormous collection of screws and nails…So free there too…A few bucks spent on brackets and our boys have some nice shelves in their rooms now…
The boys have been wanting something special in their room to call their own…Their sister had a DVD player, karaoke machine, TV and stereo…They still have no TV channels…They can only watch dvd’s…An old TV stand given to us by my brother, fit perfectly between the boy’s beds…A tv also given to us we put in the boys’ room…We finally let the boys have our PlayStation 2…That fits beautifully under the tv stand…The PlayStation 2 also plays DVDs ..The top of the boys dressers are now empty because the stuffed animals now have a home on shelves…I found a sale on fabric totes…They were $2.99 a piece…They boys have two each on top of their dressers for all their other what-nots…
We also had to replace the fabric underneath my oldest’s son’s box spring…The cat decided it was a play thing to got up into it and play…The cat though shredded it into pieces…We took an old sheet from our king size bed and folded it and stapled it to the bottom of the box spring…Now the cat can not climb under the bed into the springs and keep my oldest son awake all night…
The boys do have several totes of things to go through from what we cleaned out of their room but that is for another day…Right now the kids are quietly watching a movie together and my hubby and I can watch tv together…I ask my oldest son, if he wanted us to paint his room still…He says, he does not care now…He thinks his room is the greatest now…Who knew what a few old things and a few dollars spent could make all the difference to a kid…It did though…I feel happy my husband and I were able to give this gift to our boys…
We did tell them we could take the PlayStation away, anytime they decided to not follow the rules or decide to fight among themselves…They said they understood that…For now though, we can actually walk through their bedrooms and it does not look like a cluttered mess…They have room and it is special for them…We plan on painting it this summer and adding some wall decals of their choosing but were are waiting for finances to come our way…Thank You God for the ability to give our kids something special for their room…
My daughter is wanting a music room…We did decorate and paint her room a few years back but she is wanting a new design…Her room is shaped like an attic and there is not much choice of furniture moving there either but I might have some options…We have a foyer table that was passed onto us years ago…It is currently sitting in our garage…She also wants an end table for a reading lamp…I plan on putting the foyer table in a corner of her room…Up against her bed…Her TV for karaoke can go on the table too…We are giving her our dvd player from our bedroom…I plan on sewing some patchwork curtains and hanging them diagonally in her bedroom…That way she can have a stage entrance and a separate corner for just her music area…She seems to like the idea…We are not painting again or buying new furniture, just maybe a updo of sorts…She also wants the sheer curtain to hang over her bed…This is doable too and cheap…Searching Craigslist and Goodwill for lamps and other misc…stuff…That is what is going on with her room…
Still the kids have a decent size playroom, that they share between the three of them…It just needs cleaned out…They have to get rid of more stuff because they are growing out of things…Spring cleaning at its greatest…Hubby and I plan on painting this room too…We also plan on using Black Chalkboard paint on one of the walls for them to write on…They still seem to like to write and color on walls even at their age…That is down the road though…Nothing wrong with having plans…Kids grow out of clothes so quickly but it just now occurred to me, how fast they grow out of toys too…They do not even play with half of what they have…They are more interested in just hanging out as a family…Goes to show and prove what is more important to a child…Time more than money…Sure it would be nice to give them each their own room and cater to their desire but what would I be teaching them…They will remember what we did with them, not what we gave them…I am glad we figured this out early before we went broke…Still fun to spoil them though…Thank You God for my munchkins and the house you have given to us…
Hubby was a huge help…No way possible, I could have done what he did…I needed him and he came through for me and the kids…He picked up all the heavy stuff, did the bracket shopping twice…Got wrong size first time…Made all the holes and measured it all out…Boys’ were so grateful and thankful for all he did…Thank You God for my hubby and the help he continues to give me…
Now to sit down, enjoy a cup of coffee and hang out with my favorite person in the world, my hubby…
Sleep wonderfully, comfortably and warmly tonight my readers…Get rested up because God has big plans for you tomorrow…
Almighty Father, My God, more wondrous than all the stars above…
